Overview: 
The Cosmetology Clinical Preceptor serves as a clinical resource for Cosmetology students during their clinical rotations, ensuring they gain the practical skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in cosmetology. It is not the expectation that the preceptor acts as an instructor, but rather the preceptor is responsible for the on-site supervision and assessment of the students while on clinical. The preceptor connects the classroom and clinical area and their knowledge guides students to manage clinical assignments, meet course outcomes, and articulate areas of opportunity and concern to the faculty member.

 Essential Functions:
·         Provide supervision and hands-on instruction to cosmetology students during their clinical rotation.
·         Facilitate student’s orientation.
·         Demonstrate various cosmetology techniques and procedures, including, hair cutting, styling, coloring, skincare, and nail services. 
·         Ensure students understand and follow industry best practices, safety protocols, and sanitation standards along with following the policies and procedures of Southeastern College and the program.
·         Monitor students’ performance.
·         Assist students in managing client consultations, recommending appropriate treatments, and addressing client needs.
·         Demonstrate professional behavior and ethical standards in all interactions with clients, students and colleagues.
·         Stay current with advancements in cosmetology techniques and industry trends.
·         Contribute to the development and improvement of cosmetology education program.
 
  
Salon Products, Sales, and Commission: 
·         Promote and sell the school’s salon products and services along with servicing existing and new clients.
·         Stay informed about new products and services offered by the school.
·         Will receive a commission of 80% of the net sales price of each product or service sold. The net sales prices is defined as the price paid by the customer, less any taxes, refunds, and discounts.
 
 
Supervisory Responsibilities: 
Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for standards of service and client satisfaction.

Education, Experience, and Training: 
·         Certificate from college or technical school cosmetology and/or training/ or equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
·         Must possess a current and valid cosmetology license in the state of South Carolina.  
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  
·         Standing for extended periods of time while demonstrating techniques and supervising students.
·         Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle tools and perform various cosmetology procedures.
·         Occasionally lifting and carrying items up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
·         Regularly bending, reaching, and stooping to perform services and assist students.
·         Good vision for close work and the ability to see color differences.
·         Ability to hear and understand speech in a noisy environment to communicate effectively with students and clients.
 
   
WORK ENVIRONMENT:  
·         Work will be performed in a clinic or salon environment, which can be busy and fast-paced.
·         Regular exposure to various chemicals and products used in hair care, skincare, and nail services.
·         Moderate to high noise levels from salon equipment, client conversations, and other background noises.
·         Constant interaction with clients and students, requiring strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain a positive, calm, and       professional demeanor.
·         Will be working closely with other cosmetologists, instructors, and clinic staff.
  
This is a part-time position and the hours vary.
